Ring camera catches attempted car break ins in Jackson

JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) – A problem that’s only escalating for police — add Jackson to Cape and Fruitland dealing with car break ins and vehicle thefts.
Attempted car break ins caught on tape — Matthew Nenninger shares what was caught on his neighbor’s ring camera.
He lives in Jackson and on Tuesday August 13th around 1:49 am Nenninger says you can see several people trying to break into cars.
“They really need to be careful going into people’s cars, yards, driveways because some people if they get caught, they will take matters into their own hands.”
Nenninger says the thieves also broke into his neighbor’s car and got the glove box open, but nothing was stolen.
“Anything, lock anything up nonmatter what neighborhood you live in. If you live in a quiet nicer neighborhood to me that’s a target” says Nenninger.
This comes after Cape Girardeau police issued a warning on Monday telling people to lock up their cars reporting at least 17 different stolen vehicle reports in Cape Girardeau in the last 30 days.
“We have made several arrests off of those and recovered several of the vehicles, but we want to remind everybody to make sure you’re locking your vehicles taking the valuables out and also if you have a spare key make sure you aren’t leaving that in the vehicle as well.”
Officer Bobby Newton reminds everyone to also remove extra keys from vehicles as well as valuables like cell phones or guns.
Police say they do not know why the local area seems to be a target — but encourage everyone to take precautions.
