12 staff members at Menard Correctional Center taken to hospital

MENARD, Ill. (KBSI) – Twelve staff members at Menard Correctional Center were taken to a hospital after experiencing medical symptoms.

Wednesday, August  29 a staff member at Menard Correctional Center experienced medical symptoms and was transported by ambulance to an outside hospital.

Shortly after, additional staff members responding to the incident began to experience similar symptoms.

Eleven more Menard Correctional Center staff members were taken to an outside hospital for evaluation via a state vehicle.

All Menard Correctional Center staff members have since been released from the hospital.

Facility leadership contacted the Illinois Poison Control Center and requested the St. Clair County EMA’s Hazmat Team to assist with the investigation.

The facility was placed on a Level 1 lockdown as a precaution. Personal protective equipment (PPE) has been made available to all staff.

The department is conducting a thorough investigation into the events at Menard.
