Cape Girardeau mourns former mayor

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KBSI) -Cape Girardeau residents now mourning the death of former mayor Harry Rediger. He lost his battle with Cancer yesterday at the age of 86.
His life – a celebration of accomplishments in public service.
The current mayor of Cape said he was a ” wonderful person and true gentleman, and those qualities served him, his family and his community so very well.” She went on to speak about his boundless enthusiasm and loving heart.
He was one of the city’s most respected public servants. Having a wide array of expertise in issues, he always conducted himself with professionalism, respect for others, and great common sense.
His career includes work with JCPenny and countless volunteer projects.
He served as Cape’s mayor for eight years, ending in 2018.
His legacy includes significant accomplishments for the city including work to bring the casino, Cape Splash, street improvements and the Cape Girardeau SportsPlex.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, September 26, at 10:00 am at Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
