City Councilman arrested for meth distribution

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A narcotics investigation has led to the arrest of City Councilman Rhettney B. Pierce, an individual accused of being involved in methamphetamine distribution.

According to the Cape Girardeau Sheriffs Office on Thursday, September 26, 2024,the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force, along with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a successful narcotics investigation that led to the arrest of Rhettney B. Pierce.

The investigation involved a confidential source who arranged to purchase methamphetamine from Pierce. Pierce arrived at a hotel in Cape Girardeau County, where officers observed him entering a room and completing the drug transaction. Pierce exited the room after the transaction and was immediately taken into custody by law enforcement.

After his arrest, investigators interviewed Pierce. During the interview, Pierce admitted to purchasing and selling methamphetamine and that he had more methamphetamine located at his residence.

Pierce also admitted to being a habitual methamphetamine user.

A search was conducted of Pierces home and evidence was recovered, including methamphetamine. Also located were two Smith & Wesson 9mm handguns.

Upon concluding the investigation, Pierce was transported to the Cape Girardeau County Justice Center and placed on a 24-hour hold.

At the time of his arrest, Pierce had approximately 122.4 grams of methamphetamine. The drugs have been recovered and are now in evidence.

Pierce is facing charges related to narcotics possession, distribution & illegal possession of firearms.

Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Welker has charged Pierce with the following offenses:
Count 1: Class B Felony of Trafficking in the Second Degree
Count 2: Class C Felony of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
Count 3: Class C Felony of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
Pierce’s bond is set at $50,000Cash only.
