Deadly crash in Scott County

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – A four vehicle crash took the life of two people in Scott County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the crash happened around 4:40pm yesterday afternoon on October 2 on Highway 77 about 3 miles South of Chaffee.

The crash happened when a 1996 GMC Sierra driven by 29-year-old Merle Hopper of Chaffee struck the rear end of a Toyota Tacoma driven by Brandon Phillips age 33 of Oran causing a reaction from the vehicle’s following which involved a Freightliner driven by a minor and Chevy Equinox driven by Debra Buell age 62 of Oran.

Merle Hopper age 29 of Chaffee and Debra Buell age 62 of Oran were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

Brandon Phillips age 33 of Oran sustained moderate injuries and was Lifeflighted to St. Louis for treatment.

Dnae Phillips age 34 of Oran sustained injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Two minor children were also present in the crash and were also treated at an area hospital for injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
