PETA looks into New Madrid cat poisonings

NEW MADRID, Mo. (KBSI) – PETA is headed to New Madrid County after more reports of cats being poisoned have been reported.

Following reports from the New Madrid Police Department at least five cats died after allegedly being poisoned near Davis Street and Capitol Boulevard.

PETA says cat attacks have been an issue recently all over the U.S.

So much so that it’s prompted a new PETA video series on the dangers of letting cats roam outside.

“The great outdoors is simply not great for cats, who can be perceived as a nuisance and harmed in heartbreaking and horrific ways,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA encourages all guardians to provide their cats with a happy and interesting indoor life safe from predators, speeding cars, and the many other dangers of the outdoor world.”

The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office believes someone is putting out poison in an attempt to kill rodents but instead are killing cats.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the New Madrid Police Department.
