Mount Vernon man faces several charges including animal cruelty

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) – A Mount Vernon man faces several charges after pulling out a handgun during an argument.
On October 22, 2024, at 12:45 pm, officers with the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to the 200 block of South 19th Street for the report of a subject identified as Roderick Burnett Jr. in possession of a handgun during a domestic dispute.
Schools were notified and took precautions due to the proximity of the call.
During the investigation a search warrant was obtained for Burnett’s residence and served by MVPD Officers and Detectives.
A firearm, ammunition and decaying deceased dogs were located at the residence.
Roderick Burnett Jr. was arrested and faces charges of Armed Violence, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
