Employees forced to evacuate after a facility fire near Scott City

SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – Scott City Fire Department and others were on scene at a commercial first alarm structure fire on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Scott City Fire Department on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 01:12 pm the Scott City Fire Department responded to a commercial first alarm structure fire in the 200 block of River Road in the Semo Port Authority outside of Scott City.
After arrival firefighters say black smoke was visible from the area so the incident was upgraded to a working fire, which automatically brought in mutual aid from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, N.B.C. Fire Protection District, Chaffee Fire Department, Benton Department, & Gordonville Fire Protection District.
The fire was located on the fourth floor of the building with employees evacuating the facility.
Fire personnel gained access to the fourth floor by an exterior stairwell and established a water supply to the fourth floor utilizing Ladder 2841 as an aerial standpipe connection.
With the help of several responding agencies fire personal was able to vent the roof.
More manpower was requested from the Jackson Fire Department.
The fire was contained to the fourth floor with about 20 feet of damage to the roof of the facility.
North Scott County Ambulance District was on standby during the incident.
Fire Cause Investigation determined the fire started in a Hopper/Duct piping in the facility on the fourth floor.
Afterwards floors 1-3 were checked by personnel to ensure no fire had spread through the piping in the facility.
Maintenance personnel at the facility remained on fire watch throughout the night as a precaution.
Caseys General Store in Scott City graciously provided all fire personnel with pizza and water during the incident.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
