Carbondale Police responding to possible school threat

CARBONDALE, IL (KBSI) — The Carbondale Police Department was alerted to a threat of violence at Carbondale Middle School. The threat said it would happen on Wednesday.

Detectives alongside the school resource officers immediately began an investigation, which led to identifying a District 95 student as the source of the threat. The juvenile offender was taken into custody on Wednesday morning.

Officials say there are no current threats to Carbondale Middle School or anywhere within Carbondale District 95.

Interim City Manager and Police Chief Stan Reno commended the swift response and coordination of the involved teams to ensure safety, saying: “Thanks to the swift efforts of our detectives and the District 95 School Resource Officer, we were able to identify, and address this potential threat promptly. The Carbondale Police Department greatly appreciates the support and patience of the Carbondale community during this investigation. We will continue to work closely with District 95 administrators and you will see an increased police presence at local schools to ensure the ongoing safety of our students, staff, and the Carbondale community.”
