WILLIAMSON CO, IL (KBSI) — The Williamson County Sheriff’s office apprehended a suspect, Jakob Caldwell,  involved in the theft and criminal damage of more than $100,000 of communication wire.

These thefts caused disruption of phone and internet service to thousands of customers across multiple counties.

Caldwell was caught while in possession of a vehicle loaded with stolen wire he allegedly finished cutting up. Investigators approached him in a wooded lot in northwest Marion.

This follows the unrelated October 4, 2024 case resulting in the arrest of two suspects who allegedly had a truck load of communications wire.

Sheriff Jeff Diederich stated, “WCSO has implemented significant technology resources to aid us in identifying and capturing those who steal wire. Those who choose to commit these crimes are on notice that we will identify you and arrest you.”
