Highway closed after officer involved shooting and death investigation

CRYSTAL City, Mo. (KBSI) – Deputies are investigating after a shooting incident.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Highway 61/67 remains closed in both directions south of Highway A all the way to the American Legion Drive/Highway 61 intersection as investigators continue their work at the scene of an officer-involved shooting and death investigation.

Sources say it will likely remain closed until around 9:00 tonight.
Please avoid the area and expect detours.
Update:
According to Jefferson County Sheriff Marshak officers with the Crystal City Police Department responded to a shooting incident at a White Castle.
Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect in a black pickup truck.
Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect who then attempted to flee.
As the suspect attempted to make a getaway his pickup truck then crashed into a center median near the 700 block of Veterans Boulevard.
According to deputies the suspect then got out of his vehicle covered in body armor with multiple weapons.
Crystal City officers say they attempted to approach the suspect when he opened fire. Crystal City officers then returned fire, and the suspect was eventually arrested.
Officers say the suspect is being treated for his injuries at an area hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
A women’s body was found inside the suspect’s truck deceased.
Officers believe she was dead before the shoot-out.
No officers were harmed during the shoot-out.
This is an ongoing investigation.
