Off-duty deputy and three others killed in a crash in New Madrid County

NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – An off-duty deputy in New Madrid County and three others were killed in a car crash Tuesday afternoon.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Clark Parrott said it happened at 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17 on Highway U between Lilbourn and New Madrid.
The 41-year old off-duty deputy, Dustin Colbert was in a personal vehicle with his two daughters — a 1 year old and a 4 year old — when he lost control of his vehicle. He crossed the centerline and struck a second vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle was 17 year old Nevaeh DeBose, who also died. DeBose’s father said she was on her way to work when the crash occurred.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Parrott said. “It’s tough when we lose a fellow officer. We’re from different departments but we’re on the same team. Our thoughts go out to the families of those involved.”
Crews are investigating the deadly crash.
