Vehicle fire closes road temporarily in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — A motor vehicle fire temporarily closed a road in Williamson County on Jan. 20, 2025.

Deputies responded to the 13000 block of Pittsburg Road at 6:43 a.m. after the driver reported smelling smoke and pulling over.

The vehicle, a 2014 Ford Escape, became engulfed in flames, but the driver escaped safely.

Williamson County Fire extinguished the blaze, but the water used to fight the fire created an icy road condition due to low temperatures.

The highway department cleared the ice, and the road reopened.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office thanked Williamson County Fire and the highway department for their assistance.

Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office at 618-997-6541 or submit a tip through the Williamson County Sheriff’s App.
