Birthing Center at SIH Memorial Hospital to remain open

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Southern Illinois Healthcare has assured the community that its Birthing Center at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale will continue to provide labor and delivery services despite Heartland Women’s Healthcare’s decision to discontinue its own labor and delivery services.

Heartland Women’s Healthcare notified SIH on Dec. 4, 2024, that it would end its labor and delivery services on Jan. 31, 2025, citing strategic goals and operational plans.

SIH said its Birthing Center will maintain the highest standard of care, with skilled obstetricians, midwives and staff available to meet the needs of growing families.

The healthcare provider has partnered with OBHG to establish an inpatient obstetrician hospitalist program, which will provide 24/7 emergency services and support starting this spring.
