Zeigler woman charged with arson after structure fire

ZEIGLER, Ill., (KBSI) — A structure fire broke out on the 100-block of School St. at approximately 2:00 P.M. today but was quickly extinguished by the Zeigler Fire Department. Despite their efforts, the outbuilding was a total loss.
The Zeigler Police Department launched an investigation, gathering information from nearby residents and passersby. They requested assistance from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, leading to interviews with Amber L. Sanders, a Zeigler resident, regarding the blaze and a suspected arson incident at her home three weeks prior.
The investigation resulted in Sanders being cited for arson, aggravated arson, and criminal damage to property. She was transported to the Franklin County Jail, awaiting a pre-trial detention hearing tomorrow.
The Zeigler Police Department expressed gratitude for the assistance of Special Agent Little of the OSFM, the Zeigler Fire Department, and the community members who aided in the investigation.
