Teen driver faces charges in school bus stop accident

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A 19-year-old driver has been charged with failure to stop for a school bus after a kindergartner was struck while getting off the bus.
The crash occurred Jan. 13 around 3:30 p.m. on U.S. 61, near Morley.
According to court documents, the school bus driver had stopped for a routine pickup when the child was hit by a 2004 Toyota Tundra driven by Brice Beussink of Oran.
Beussink told investigators he saw the school bus but didn’t realize it was stopped. A witness reported that the bus had its lights and stop signs activated when the truck failed to stop and struck the child.
The 6-year-old victim, Bryson Gaspard, suffered a broken pelvis, broken femur and a small brain bleed. He was airlifted from the scene and is recovering.
