Police arrest driver who fled traffic stop, threw drugs from vehicle

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky., (KBSI) — A traffic stop on Fort Campbell Boulevard led to a high-speed chase and the arrest of a Clarksville man on multiple charges, including drug trafficking.
According to police, officers stopped a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Christopher Winters just before 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 after observing a traffic infraction. When officers approached the vehicle, they detected the odor of marijuana.
Winters fled the scene at speeds exceeding 100 mph, prompting a vehicle pursuit. During the chase, Winters was seen throwing bags of narcotics out the window.
The pursuit ended when Winters lost control of his vehicle near McLean Avenue and East 9th Street. He was taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle yielded 19 grams of cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and more than $25,000 in cash.
Winters was charged with multiple offenses, including failure to signal, fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment, trafficking in controlled substances, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating on a suspended or revoked license and tampering with physical evidence.
