Murphysboro Firefighters rescue entangled hawk at Browns Lake
MURPHYSBORO, Ill., (KBSI) — Firefighters in Murphysboro rescued a red-tailed hawk that had become entangled in fishing line and was suspended above the water’s surface at Browns Lake.
Captains Nance and Dosch responded to the scene, along with Chief McBride, who brought cold water rescue equipment. Animal Control Officer Mark Tincher also assisted.
Captain Nance entered the lake and used a rescue cage to free the hawk from a tree limb. The bird was brought to shore, where the fishing line was removed from its feet and wing.
The hawk appeared to have wing injuries and will be transferred to an animal rehabilitation facility.
