Martin teen arrested in string of vehicle burglaries

MARTIN, Tenn., (KBSI) — An 18-year-old Martin man has been arrested in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries reported early Tuesday morning.

The Martin Police Department received numerous reports of vehicle burglaries and attempted burglaries from various areas in the middle and south portions of the city, starting around 1:10 a.m. Video footage from home security cameras helped identify the suspect.

At approximately 8:25 a.m., police received a call about a suspicious person on foot in the area of Jackson Street, wearing a head covering and carrying a backpack. The caller reported that the individual appeared to be checking vehicle doors to see if they were unlocked.

Multiple officers responded to the area, and Investigator Chris Finch made contact with the suspect, identified as Dalton Davis. Davis’ abandoned vehicle was found parked in the East Side Cemetery, and he was detained for questioning.

A search of Davis’ personal belongings and vehicle uncovered several stolen items from earlier reports. Further investigation revealed that a juvenile offender also participated in the vehicle burglaries with Davis. The juvenile was taken into custody at a residence in Martin.

Davis was charged with several counts of burglary from a motor vehicle and transported to the Weakley County Detention Center. His arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Weakley County General Sessions Court.

The juvenile offender was also charged with several counts of burglary from a motor vehicle and transported to a juvenile detention facility. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be pending for both offenders.

The Martin Police Department urges residents who may have had items stolen from their vehicles during the night or early morning to report the incidents by calling (731)587-5355.
