Driver charged with DUI after rollover crash in Williamson County
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — A driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after a rollover crash early Sunday morning.
Williamson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the crash in the 5500 block of South Market Road at 1:42 a.m.
A 2025 pickup truck had left the roadway, struck an embankment, became airborne — traveling 70 feet — and rolled multiple times before coming to rest near a residence.
A witness told deputies they saw the occupants tossing beer bottles out of the truck before the deputies arrived. The deputies found beer bottles in the vehicle and in the yard at the crash scene.
Sheriff Jeff Diederich said a standardized field sobriety test was conducted and concluded that the driver was under the influence.
“All three individuals were assessed by EMS and refused medical treatment — extremely lucky to not have incurred any injuries given the severity of the crash and the impact,” he said.
Borrego was cited for driving under the influence, illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office at 618-997-6541 or submit a tip through the sheriff’s app.
