Multiple agencies respond to Hayti fire
HAYTI, Mo., (KBSI) — The Steele Fire Department has deployed personnel to assist the Hayti Fire Department in battling a significant fire in the city’s “Square” area.
Steele firefighters are standing by at the Hayti station, ready to provide support as needed.
To ensure local coverage, the Steele Fire Department has personnel on standby in Steele, prepared to respond to any emergencies in their own community.
According to Hayti Assistant Fire Chief Michael Bellew what started as someone burning trash quickly turned into a fire incident that required assistance from multiple agencies.
“We called the neighboring fire departments. We called Caruthersville fire department, Wardell, Portageville, and Steele fire departments.”
According to Assistant Fire Chief Bellew this fire became complicated to get reach. Resulting in the building being torn down, which took some time.
“Approximately about three hours. We ended up needing a backhoe and tore the building down in order to get to the building itself and tear the building down” says Bellew.
Bellew says the building was not currently being used for anything and was vacant, so no one was hurt, however, the building was connected to other businesses.
“Yes, it was a building that was attached to other buildings, and we were able to contain it to the one it was on the south end of all the structures.”
No other businesses received damage.
