Pet owners alert: Save This Life microchip company closes, leaving pets untraceable

SAN DIEGO (KBSI) — A microchip company, Save This Life, has abruptly ceased operations, leaving numerous pet microchips unregistered and untraceable.
Pet owners in the San Diego area, particularly those whose pets were chipped at local shelters or rescues, are advised to take immediate action to ensure their contact information remains linked to their pet’s microchip.
To verify and re-register microchips:
– Check the microchip number on adoption contracts, medical records or with a veterinarian.
– Scan the chip at a veterinarian’s office, animal shelter or with a local animal group.
– Identify the chip: Microchip numbers starting with 991 or 900164 are likely from Save This Life.
– Use the AAHA Universal Microchip Lookup Tool to see if the microchip is registered with an active database.
– Re-register the microchip with a reputable provider, such as AKC Reunite, PetLink or HomeAgain.
Additional tips:
– Update contact information in the new registry.
– Use multiple forms of identification, including collars and ID tags.
Pet owners are urged to spread the word and take proactive steps to protect their pets.
