Sikeston leaders meet with Missouri lawmakers to discuss local priorities

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — Community leaders from Sikeston met with Missouri state legislators earlier this week to discuss local priorities and ongoing efforts to support the local community.

On Monday, Sikeston leaders hosted a Listening Post session, attended by Missouri senators, representatives and neighboring district representatives, as well as leadership from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

During the session, Sikeston leaders outlined their top priorities, including Future I-57 and proactive approaches to regional growth. Key initiatives include:

– Infrastructure Upgrades: Upgrading Hwy 60 to interstate standards
– Workforce Development: Expanding the Sikeston Career and Technology Center to strengthen the local workforce
– Transportation Enhancement: Strengthening Mississippi River transportation at the Dorena Hickman Ferry and Port Authority

On Tuesday, Representative David Dolan acknowledged the Sikeston delegation on the House Floor, where they were joined by State Reps. Donnie Brown and Cameron Parker. The delegation also met with Missouri Sens. Jamie Burger and Jason Bean to further discuss local priorities.

Marcie Lawson praised the strong, collaborative leadership representing Southeast Missouri, stating, “We are incredibly fortunate to have these invested leaders”
