SEMO Board of Governors Speak on the Hire of Newest University President Dr. Brad Hodson

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — Dr. Brad Hodson has been named the 19th president of Southeast Missouri State University, bringing with him three decades of experience in higher education. Hodson, who was previously a vice president at Missouri Southern State University, was selected from a pool of 37 qualified applicants.

James P. Limbaugh, president of the SEMO Board of Governors, expressed confidence in Hodson’s leadership and vision for the university.

“He wanted to continue the wonderful momentum that has been created at the university,” Limbaugh said. “He has committed himself to being engaged in the community, both internally and in the region.”

Hodson’s appointment received unanimous approval from both the search committee and the board, a rare achievement in this selections process.

“It’s tough to get unanimous decisions,” Limbaugh said. “But we had that for Dr. Hodson—not only from the search committee but from the board as well.”

Students on campus shared their hopes for Hodson’s tenure, including Bryan Walquist, leader of the Rowdy Crowd at SEMO, a spirited student section at athletic events.

“I feel like the new president could make things better by being more interactive with all groups, not just certain ones,” Walquist said.

As Hodson prepares to take over as president, students also took time to thank the work from outgoing President Dr. Carlos Vargas.

“Thank you because he helped us out, got involved with the basketball team, and took the time to know us,” Walquist added. “I hope the new president continues that tradition coming over, interacting, and cheering us on.”

Hodson is expected to officially begin his role in the coming months, with a focus on strengthening relationships with students, faculty, and the entire Cape Girardeau community.
