Missouri man sentenced to prison for 2017 Kennett shooting

KENNETT, Mo., (KBSI) — Johnny Phillips, 46, of Steele, has been sentenced to prison for a 2017 shooting in Kennett.

Phillips was found guilty of assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon following a jury trial in November.

He was sentenced to 17 years for the assault charge, three years for armed criminal action and four years for unlawful use of a weapon.

The charges stemmed from an argument between Phillips and the victim in November 2017. The argument escalated, and Phillips shot the victim in the chest on Washington Street.

The victim was airlifted to a hospital.

The investigation was conducted by the Kennett Police Department, Gosnell Police Department and Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office.
