Illinois law enforcement to crack down on impaired driving during St. Patrick’s Day

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — Law enforcement agencies in Jackson County are launching a traffic safety campaign to coincide with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Illinois State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation to remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving.
“St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will likely take place throughout the weekend prior to the holiday, and we urge everyone to celebrate responsibly,” said Sgt. Ronald Stanton.
In addition to targeting alcohol- and cannabis-impaired drivers, deputies will also be enforcing seat belt laws, particularly at night.
Speeding, distracted driving, and all traffic laws will be strictly enforced.
The campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by IDOT.
