Person rescued after trench collapse in Cape Girardeau
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Emergency responders from multiple agencies converged on a scene in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday after a trench collapse trapped a person.
The incident, which occurred within the city’s jurisdiction, prompted Cape Girardeau officials to request mutual aid from Jackson and the Regional Homeland Security Team.
Responders worked to extricate the trapped individual.
A man fell about 10-12 feet into a trench near exit 102 in Jackson and suffered a broken leg, authorities said.
The man was in stable condition when he was taken to a hospital by ambulance, according to Cape Girardeau Fire Chief Brad Dillow.
Fruitland Fire and Gordonville Fire provided backup coverage by staffing Cape Girardeau’s fire stations.
Cape’s Fire Battalion Chief, Shawn Morris remained on scene, commanding the response efforts.
