Corrections officer; inmates charged in fentanyl smuggling plot

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A corrections officer at Southeast Correctional Center has been charged with smuggling fentanyl into the prison, resulting in multiple overdoses and two inmate deaths.

Kristen Overy, 39, allegedly hid the drugs in her uniform and brought them into the prison between April 25, 2022, and May 11, 2022.

Inmates Van Wilson and Ralph Cato were also charged in the plot.

According to court documents, Overy admitted to picking up the drugs during prearranged meetings set up by the inmates.

Cato also admitted to having drugs inside the prison and planned to split them with Wilson.

Overy is being held at the Mississippi County Jail on a $50,000 bond. She’s also accused of having sex with an inmate.
