Valier man arrested on multiple charges following traffic stop

VALIER, Ill., (KBSI) — A traffic stop in Valier led to the arrest of a 55-year-old man on multiple charges, including possession of controlled substances and unlawful possession of a handgun.

Brian W. Miner, of Valier, was pulled over by a Sheriff’s Deputy at approximately 11:15 p.m. Thursday for a moving violation. During the stop, the deputy detected a strong odor of raw cannabis and observed drug paraphernalia in plain view ¹.

A probable cause search of Miner and his vehicle yielded additional drug paraphernalia, multiple containers of suspected cannabis, and a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine.

A handgun was also found in a bag in the vehicle.

Miner was charged with speeding, operating a vehicle with expired registration, possession of adult-use cannabis in a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Additional charges are pending.

Miner was transported to the Franklin County Jail and is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
