Williamson County inmate work detail collects hundreds of pounds of trash
MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office conducted an inmate work detail along Illinois Route 13 east of Marion on Tuesday, collecting hundreds of pounds of trash.
The detail, which began in December, has collected over 4,300 pounds of trash along county roadways.
Non-violent offenders who have committed low-level offenses are eligible to participate in the work detail, which aims to improve the county’s landscape.
Inmates wear bright orange clothing and are accompanied by a uniformed deputy to ensure traffic safety and prevent contact with the public.
Participants receive credit for community service and the opportunity to give back to the community.
