Texas Rangers apprehend suspect in Scott County shooting

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with a shooting incident that critically injured two individuals on March 14.

DeMarco Simpson, 38, of Sikeston and Charleston, was taken into custody by the Texas Rangers in Fort Worth, Texas, around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Simpson is facing charges including two counts of assault, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

A no-bond warrant was issued for Simpson, who is currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court today for a waiver of extradition hearing.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sikeston Department of Public Safety, and other local agencies to investigate the shooting.

Authorities credited the successful apprehension to the cooperation between law enforcement agencies across state lines.
