UPDATE: All lanes open; SEMI crash blocks U.S. 51 Ohio River Bridge
PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — UPDATE: All lanes are now open.
A semi crash has blocked both travel lanes of the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge connecting Kentucky and Illinois, according to Ballard County 911 Dispatch.
Deputies and responders are on the scene, but there is no estimate on when the bridge will reopen.
The bridge, also known as The Cairo Bridge, carries approximately 5,800 vehicles across the Ohio River daily, with about 35% being commercial trucks.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Illinois Department of Transportation are planning to construct a new bridge at the site.
