Scam Alert: Facebook post claiming ‘Silver Alert’ is false

CARUTHERSVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) – A post circulating on local Facebook yard sale pages claiming a “silver alert” has been issued is not credible and is a scam, authorities with the Caruthersville Police Department said.

The post contains several red flags, including:

Incorrect information: Silver alerts are only issued for elderly subjects, not 27-year-olds.
Lack of law enforcement contact information: The post does not provide a department name or contact phone number.
Inaccurate uniform: The uniform pictured is not worn by any local law enforcement department.
