Storm Shelters April 2nd
(KBSI)- Several storm shelters are opening in Missouri and Illinois in preparation for severe weather.
Missouri:
Dunklin County: Various storm shelters will open when a warning is issued, including locations in Malden, Clarkton, Campbell, Holcomb, Kennett, and Cardwell.
New Madrid County R-1 School District: The FEMA Safe Shelter at Central Middle School will open at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office: FEMA buildings in New Madrid and Portageville will open at 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, respectively.
Perryville Methodist Church: Will open its storm shelter at 3 p.m. Wednesday, with transportation beginning at 2 p.m.
Doniphan R-I School District: The FEMA building will open at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Ripley County R-IV School District: The FEMA building at Lone Star will be open.
Scott City Police: The FEMA building will open at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Chaffee Community Care Portal: The United Methodist Church will open as a shelter, with the opening time to be announced on the portal’s Facebook page.
Jackson Civic Center: The safe room will be open during normal operation hours and will remain open during tornado watches or warnings.
Illinois:
Carbondale Civic Center: The basement will open as a public storm shelter at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Carbondale Warming Center: Will serve as a storm shelter starting at 4 p.m. Wednesday through Thursday at 1 p.m.
Vienna High School: Storm shelters will be open at various locations, including Vienna High School, Ozark Baptist Church, Cypress Grade School, Buncombe Grade School, and Benton Community Church.
First Baptist Church in Murphysboro: Will open its basement at 4 p.m. Wednesday for shelter and will serve free spaghetti and fettuccine at 5 p.m.
Kentucky:
First Baptist Church: 1400 South Main Street, opening at 4 p.m. (no pets, no smoking/vaping)
Oak Grove Community Center: 1705 Thompsonville Lane, opening at 4 p.m. (no pets, except service animals)
Crofton Severe Weather Safe Room: 13511 North Old Madisonville Road, opening at 1 p.m. (service animals welcome)
Westview Assembly of God: 400 Pyle Lane, opening at 4 p.m. (pets in kennels allowed in separate room)
