Missouri motorists urged to exercise caution amid severe weather warning

MISSOURI (KBSI) – To ensure safe travel, motorists are advised to follow these guidelines:
Monitor local forecasts for severe weather and flood alerts.
Tune into area radio stations while traveling across the state to stay updated on the forecast.
Be aware that flash flooding can occur rapidly and unpredictably, causing roadways to flood in minutes.
Pay attention while driving and anticipate potential flooded roadways, even in unexpected areas.
Be prepared for unexpected debris on the roadway.
Never attempt to drive through floodwaters, as 12 inches of swift-moving water can sweep a vehicle away.
Avoid driving across downed power lines; if contact is made, remain in the vehicle and call for help.
Reduce speed while traveling at night or during periods of reduced visibility to react to changing road conditions.
Do not travel past or remove barricades closing a roadway, as this is extremely dangerous and a violation of state law.
