National Telecommunicators Week celebrates those serving the public
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – This week is National Telecommunicators Week and a time to celebrate those who aren’t usually seen but whose work is just as important as the individuals in the line of duty.
National Telecommunicators Week is from April 10–16 this year. The week is dedicated to celebrating dispatchers, the people helping others during the worst moments of their lives.
“I enjoy it has been an honor to able to work with fire personnel and the police personnel,” said LaDonna Beard, Communications Manager of Cape Girardeau City 911 Center about her experience as a dispatcher.
Beard says her job is an opportunity to give back to the community and help in anyway she can.
“We are behind the scenes most of the time,” said Beard. “A lot of people don’t know that if you actually dial 911, you’ll actually get a real-life person,” said Beard. “A lot of people don’t call us on the best day, It’s usually the worst day of their lives and to be able to help in any way I can, that’s what we are here for.”
She knows that it’s important not just for herself but for all dispatchers to keep the helpful spirit.
“I believe we are the heart to make sure they get home to their families every night firemen and policeman,” Beard said.
