Structure fire at Buzzi Unicem Alternate Fuels Facility
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – A silo fire was reported at the Buzzi Unicem Alternate Fuels facility at 2524 S. Sprigg on Wednesday morning.
The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to the incident at 11:24 a.m. with a first alarm assignment of four engine companies, two ladder companies and four chief officers.
The fire was quickly contained in under 20 minutes.
Crews remained on scene for overhaul of the recyclable material, which was removed from the silo using heavy equipment on site.
Several fire departments were called to the scene to assist, including Jackson Fire, Millersville Fire Protection District, Gordonville Fire Protection District, Fruitland Fire Protection District and Chaffee Fire Department.
These departments also provided backup coverage at other stations.
The fire is considered unintentional and accidental in nature.
