Southeast Missouri State University to launch Bachelor of Science in Game Development
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) is introducing a new Bachelor of Science in game development program, set to launch in fall 2025.
The program is designed for students passionate about joining the video game industry, which is projected to continue growing.
The game development program will provide students with hands-on experience in game-specific programming, game development engines and immersive gameplay design.
Courses will include rapid game prototyping, game theory and mixed reality game development.
Students will also learn computer science skills, including programming, algorithms, software engineering and machine learning.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for software developers, including game developers, is projected to increase 17% through 2033.
Graduates of the program will be prepared for careers at major game studios and will have a portfolio of projects to showcase their skills.
Students pursuing a game development degree may also be interested in minoring in Esports, which requires 15 hours of classes.
SEMO’s Esports club is open to all students and provides opportunities for competitive gaming, project collaboration and skill development.
Eligible new Missouri undergraduate students with a 2.75 high school GPA and Pell Grant eligibility may qualify for the Will To Do Award, which covers tuition and fees.
