7 inmates graduate from Adler University’s online program
INA, Ill. — Seven inmates at Big Muddy River Correctional Center have graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Applied Psychology through a partnership with Adler University.
The graduation ceremony was held at the correctional center and attended by family members, IDOC staff and Adler University faculty.
The program, launched in 2021, was designed for inmates who had completed an associate’s degree or accumulated at least 60 college credits.
Illinois Department of Corrections Director Latoya Hughes said the program demonstrates the power of education in rehabilitation and provides a pathway for personal growth and transformation.
The graduates can pursue various career opportunities, including community outreach, behavioral health and social services management.
The program was delivered online with weekly synchronous sessions and face-to-face advising sessions.
