Police pursue stolen vehicle in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A police officer attempted to stop a stolen vehicle on Monday, but the driver fled and remains at large.

The officer spotted the vehicle near Hwy 74 and South Sprigg around 9:45 a.m. and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle briefly stopped before speeding away, prompting a pursuit.

The officer terminated the chase due to safety concerns and losing sight of the vehicle. The car was later found abandoned in the 800-block of Hackberry with a broken front axle.

The occupants had fled and remain unapprehended. The investigation is ongoing, and police encourage anyone with information to contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
