ULLIN, Ill., (KBSI) — Students in the Shawnee Community College Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) have been gaining practical experience through various projects and site visits.
Last month, the students completed a sidewalk construction project in Grand Chain, which was attended by the town’s mayor. The mayor praised the group’s work, demonstrating the program’s positive impact on local communities.
In addition to hands-on projects, the students visited the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 318 in Marion and Samron in Vienna.
They also met with representatives from ET Simonds at the Alexander County Extension Center.
While not on job sites, students participate in classroom instruction, focusing on life skills and other curriculum.
The spring semester is nearing completion, and applications are now being accepted for the fall semester of HCCTP. Interested individuals can submit an application on the college’s website by July 18. Classes begin on September 8.
