Mercy’s Southeast Missouri Hospital College awards 51 degrees at spring commencement
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Mercy’s Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences awarded 51 degrees during its spring commencement ceremony Saturday.
The ceremony, held at La Croix Church, featured Tonya Buttry, Ph.D., dean of nursing, as the commencement speaker. Buttry, who will retire later this summer after more than 40 years of service, received recognition for her contributions to the college and community.
Missouri State Sen. Jamie Burger presented Buttry with an award, and College Board President Dr. Jim Dufek awarded her professor emerita status.
The college conferred degrees in nursing, radiologic technology, surgical technology and medical laboratory science. Fourteen graduates also earned an Associate of Arts in Allied Health degree.
Six students were recognized for outstanding academic performance, including Aimee Linares of Jackson, Missouri; Ian Bryant of Jackson, Missouri; Leah Cundiff of St. Peters, Missouri; Jamie Myers of Altenburg, Missouri; Jaylin Street of Patterson, Missouri; and Jamesha Williams of Kennett, Missouri.
