Saint Louis Zoo mourns loss of beloved Chimpanzee Kijana
ST. LOUIS. Mo., (KBSI) – The St. Louis Zoo is saddened to announce the passing of Kijana, a 32-year-old male chimpanzee.
Kijana joined the zoo’s chimp troop in 2018 through a breeding program aimed at creating a healthy population of the endangered species.
Known for his friendly demeanor, Kijana quickly socialized with the zoo’s other chimpanzees and enjoyed playing, wrestling and running with his troop members.
He was humanely euthanized Wednesday due to progressive congestive heart failure that was unresponsive to treatment.
Kijana will be deeply missed by his chimpanzee family, caretakers and the zoo community.
