Juvenile arrested, released after firearm recovered in Carbondale traffic stop

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — A 15-year-old Carbondale male was arrested Tuesday evening for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after a traffic stop.

According to the City of Carbondale Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of East College Street at 8:20 p.m. for a traffic violation. During the stop, officers observed the juvenile attempting to conceal a firearm.

The firearm and ammunition were recovered without incident. The juvenile was arrested and later released to his parent pending a court appearance after consultation with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office.
