Woman faces multiple charges after alleged assault

CHRISTOPHER, Ill., (KBSI)— A 46-year-old southern Illinois woman is facing multiple charges, including aggravated battery and burglary, after an alleged assault and struggle with police.

Jessica L. Sims, of Gorham, Illinois, was taken into custody Tuesday after officers responded to a report of an assault in progress at a rural Christopher residence.

Police say an 80-year-old man was found outside the residence with visible facial injuries. Authorities allege Sims, the victim’s caretaker, attempted to steal property and money, then physically attacked the victim when confronted.

Sims was disarmed after emerging from the residence with a knife-like object. She resisted arrest, causing damage to the property and struggling with officers near the patrol vehicle.

Sims is being held at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. She is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
