Radio legend, “The Bear on the Air,” Shane Parker dies

METROPOLIS, Ill., (KBSI) — Shane Parker, known to listeners as “The Bear on the Air,” has died. Parker was a beloved radio personality in southern Illinois, with a career spanning multiple stations and decades.

Parker began his career in Chicago but returned to his southern Illinois roots, finding success with an evening show on WDDJ 97 FM. He later worked at 93.3 WKYQ and WLLE FM, WiLLiE 102.

Parker was also known for his charity work, including an annual toy drive that set a new record last year. His efforts ensured many children had a Merry Christmas.

Sheriff Jon Hayden from the Graves County Sheriff’s Department, praised Parker’s contributions to the community, saying he left behind great memories and a legacy of helping those in need.
