Vienna school districts explore future options amid superintendent’s planned retirement
VIENNA, Ill., (KBSI) – The Vienna Grade School District 55 and Vienna High School District 13-3 Boards of Education have held joint meetings to discuss strategic planning for the future of education in both districts.
The initiative, led by Vienna Grade School District 55, aimed to explore options ahead of the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Greg Frehner at the end of the 2027-2028 school year.
Three primary paths are being considered: conducting an executive search for a new superintendent, sharing a superintendent and administrative services between the two districts, and school reorganization, which could include consolidation.
Both districts have a history of collaboration, including shared services such as transportation and curriculum development.
Following initial meetings, the boards agreed to conduct a feasibility study for school reorganization and explore shared services further.
