Memorial services begin for fallen Bernie Police Lt. June 11

STODDARD COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Memorial services for Bernie Police Lt. Eddie Mays will be held Wednesday, June 11.

Mays, 58, died on June 5 after responding to a domestic violence call while on duty. He suffered a medical emergency after handcuffing a resisting suspect.

A funeral service will be held at Lighthouse Church in Dexter, with visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. and the service following at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military and law enforcement honors.

In Mays’ honor, U.S. and Missouri flags will be flown at half-staff at government buildings in Stoddard County, police stations, sheriff’s offices and Missouri State Highway Patrol headquarters across the state.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating Mays’ death.
