Explosion at Kentucky church construction site revealed to be fireworks

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — Two construction workers were injured in an explosion Monday at a church building site in McCracken County.

Deputies responded to Lone Oak First Baptist Church around 12:42 p.m. after 911 calls reported an explosion and injuries.

Emergency personnel administered life-saving treatment before transporting the injured to local hospitals. They were later transferred to out-of-state hospitals.

The investigation, assisted by the ATF and Kentucky State Police, determined the explosion was caused by a “sparkler bomb” made from fireworks, which was unintentionally triggered.
