Scam Alert: MoDOT warns of fake text messages

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – The Missouri Department of Transportation is warning of scam text messages claiming to be from MoDOT or the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The messages demand payment for tolls or traffic violation fees, but MoDOT says it will never text individuals to pay a toll or fine.

To avoid falling victim to the scam:

Delete the messages immediately.
Never provide personal or payment information in response to unsolicited texts.
